“NEW” 5 Myths about Exercise that Will Inspire You to Keep Going and Stay Motivated

Are you unsure about what is true and what is not when it comes to exercise? It’s time to set the record straight.

Exercise is activity that is planned and has repeating body movements to keep you in shape or get you in better shape (you might think of this as time at the gym). But this is NOT the only way to be active and keep moving. Moving your body often is good for your health, like reducing your risk of cancer, improving your mental health and mood, getting better sleep, and living a longer life. You can try to stay healthy and happy just by moving your way! Find the things you love doing.

Below are some answers to bust common myths and help you on your path towards fun and healthy movement.

Myth: Buying gym memberships or exercise equipment is the only way to stay healthy.
Answer: Being active and staying healthy does not mean you have to pay for a gym membership or trainer or buy expensive equipment. Find the activities that get you excited about moving.

Myth: Not everyone is able to be active.
Answer: You can be active, no matter what level of fitness you’re at, whether you are a beginner, a trained athlete, a child, senior or have a physical challenge?. Start with something simple, like walking, playing with your family or your pet.

Myth: Early morning is the best time to be active.
Answer: Morning activity is a great way to get the day going, but not the ONLY time. Moving in the afternoon is just as good for your body. It all depends on what works best for you.

Myth: Being active is not fun.
Answer:
Moving your body can be fun and can involve different types of activities, so find what you love (like yoga, running, biking, or hiking) and it will always be fun. Go with a friend or family to make it a social event.

Myth: You need to be active for at least an hour at a time to be worth it.
Answer:
Most of the activity that people get is from living their daily lives (like walking, working, cleaning, running errands, etc.). All these “routine activities” keep our body moving and add up throughout the day to help meet your goal. Keep in mind that all movement is better than no movement!
Don’t let myths discourage you from being active and enjoying movement. Any movement is an important part of your health and should be enjoyable and something you can easily fit into your busy lifestyle. Keep going and moving, you got this!
